What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a robust and reliable solution for replacing missing teeth. These advanced medical devices consist of a titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. Acting as a sturdy foundation, the implant supports a variety of dental prostheses, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures.

Over time, the titanium post undergoes a critical process known as osseointegration, where it fuses with the surrounding bone tissue.

This integration provides the implant with stability comparable to that of natural teeth, allowing it to feel and function like a natural tooth. Dental implants are celebrated for their longevity and ability to effectively restore the aesthetics of patients' smiles.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

Dental implants offer several advantages over traditional tooth replacement options:

Durability

Dental implants are designed for longevity. They are generally crafted from titanium, a material celebrated for its robustness and endurance. With appropriate maintenance, including regular oral hygiene and dental visits, implants can endure for decades, offering a long-term, cost-efficient solution.

Functionality

Implants enhance the full use of your mouth. They enable comfortable chewing and speaking, much like your own teeth. Unlike removable dentures, which might shift or cause discomfort, implants offer a stable and comfortable fixed alternative.

Bone Health

An important advantage of dental implants is their role in sustaining and promoting natural bone growth. Loss of teeth can lead to gradual jawbone weakening. Implants serve as a substitute for tooth roots, essential for stimulating and maintaining bone health.

Aesthetics

Dental implants are aesthetically pleasing. They are crafted to mimic the look and feel of natural teeth, integrating flawlessly with your existing teeth. This preserves the natural contour of your face and smile, thereby boosting your oral health, confidence, and self-esteem.

Predictability

Dental implants have a high success rate, supported by decades of studies and successful clinical use. They are one of the most predictable dental treatments available for tooth replacement.

Initial Consultation

Your path to a restored smile begins with a detailed consultation at Wojtowicz Dental. We assess your oral health and discuss whether dental implants are the most suitable option for you.

Oral Surgery Treatment

If you are a candidate for implants, the next step is the surgical placement of the titanium post in your jawbone. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia to ensure your comfort.

Healing and Osseointegration

Fluoride treatments are simple, non-invasive, and are great at keeping dental decay from occurring. After your cleaning, we’ll apply a varnish or gel that is rich in fluoride to your teeth, then rinse it away after a few minutes. Fluoride strengthens your enamel by kickstarting a process called “remineralization,” which works by attracting minerals like calcium and phosphates to your teeth, helping to restore the hardness of your enamel and increase your smile’s resistance to acids.

Creating and Applying the Restoration

Dental sealants are often recommended for children, who are at a higher risk for tooth decay, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t a great option for patients of all ages who want to protect their teeth from cavities. The application of dental sealants is a very straight-forward procedure, beginning with the application of a dental resin to the molars. Located in the back of the mouth, molars are filled with grooves and uneven surfaces where plaque and bacteria can hide and flourish. The resin is then cured with a UV light to help it harden, creating a powerful barrier between your teeth and the foods, drinks, acid, and bacteria that lead to decay. And the best part? Dental sealants can last for years!

Final Restoration

In your final appointment, the prosthetic teeth are securely attached to the implants, completing your smile restoration.
